A quartz watch is more accurate. It is also finished, the moment it leaves the factory. A mechanical calibre is the opposite proposition: less precise, and never finished at all.

On collecting
Most collections grow sideways. The more interesting ones grow downward — deeper into a single idea, until every piece answers a question the last one raised.

It is not a coating. It is a surface worked so flat that it scatters no light, and the effect only exists because someone spent four hours removing almost nothing at all.

Servicing intervals are not a maintenance schedule. They are the reason a movement made in 1954 can still be regulated to four seconds a day in the room next door.
